How are sleep and brain health connected?

Small improvements to your sleep patterns can impact how well your brain functions throughout the day.

SCIENCE SAYS:

The brain and body stay active while you sleep. Research suggests that while you snooze, your brain cleans house, clearing out toxins that build up in your brain throughout each stressful day. Good sleep habits improve mental and physical energy, as well as memory consolidation, metabolism and mood.

WAYS TO BEGIN:

  • Disconnect from tech at least one hour before bed.
  • Use a sleep log to track and evaluate your sleep habits.
  • Figure out when you need to get to go to bed to get at least 7 hours of good sleep.
  • Try going to bed 15 minutes earlier. Then gradually repeat until you are following a healthy sleep schedule.
