Overview

CBS News shared a peek into the new Brain Recharge Station at UT Dallas, a dedicated space for students and faculty to reset and refocus away from daily distractions. The space encourages visitors to put away all technology and take a break from effortful thinking, allowing the brain to fully recharge.A product of collaboration between Center for BrainHealth and award-winning architectural firm Perkins&Will, the space is designed with brain breaks in mind, as the researchers at the center recommend taking at least four 5-minute brain breaks throughout day. Research has shown that brief breaks where you literally do nothing can allow the brain to energize and clarify thinking, helping to improve problem-solving and innovation while also reducing stress. By stepping away and disconnecting from the constant stimulation of daily life, we can enhance focus and overall cognitive well-being.

"When you ask students what they do during a break, they say they play a game on their phone, or they chat with friends on their phone. This is really a space where you put that technology away and you step away from any kind of effortful thinking."JANET KOSLOVSKY, MS Research Coordinator Youth and Young Adult Programs Center for BrainHealth
