Sanjay Gupta, MD

About the talk

Dr. Sanjay Gupta is the multiple Emmy and Peabody award-winning chief medical correspondent for CNN and host of the CNN podcast Chasing Life. Gupta, a practicing neurosurgeon, plays an integral role in CNN’s reporting on health and medical news for all of CNN’s shows domestically and internationally. He is a special correspondent for CBS’s 60 Minutes and a five time New York Times best-selling author.
Since 2001, Gupta has covered the most important health stories in the United States and around the world. From his live battlefield coverage in Afghanistan and the Middle East to the hurricane in New Orleans, Earthquake in Haiti and Tsunami in Japan. He has often performed brain surgery in the middle of natural disasters and wars, including five operations in the desert during the war in Iraq. He has been recognized by his peers, being awarded seven Emmy awards, four Peabody awards and a DuPont, considered the Pulitzer Prize of broadcast journalism. Throughout 2020 till now, Gupta reaffirmed his role as a trusted guide to viewers worldwide on navigating between facts and fiction surrounding Covid-19 and the pandemic.
In addition to his work for CNN, Gupta is an associate professor of neurosurgery at Emory University Hospital and associate chief of neurosurgery at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
He serves as a diplomat of the American Board of Neurosurgery. And in 2019, Gupta was elected to the National Academy of Medicine, considered one of the highest honors in the medical field.
Gupta is a proud Wolverine, having received his undergraduate degree and Medical degrees from the University of Michigan. His most rewarding role, he says, is devoted father to three teenage daughters.
