Ryan L. Boyd, PhD, is a computational social scientist at The University of Texas at Dallas. His research explores how everyday language reflects and shapes our psychology, from individual personality to society-wide processes, including psychopathology, social cognition and interpersonal dynamics.
With a focus on computational methods, Dr. Boyd’s work spans a wide array of topics, such as mental health, interpersonal processes, storytelling and emotions. Dr. Boyd has authored over 100 scholarly papers and is the co-editor of the Handbook of Language Analysis in Psychology. His research is frequently cited by high-profile regulatory bodies, including the U.S. National Security Commission on Artificial Intelligence and the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre Report on Technology and Democracy. He serves on the editorial boards of several interdisciplinary journals, including Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence: Language and Computation and Frontiers in Social Psychology: Computational Social Science. He also holds a position on the advisory board for Psychology of Language and Communication.
