About the Talk
Why, with so much progress in neuroscience, behavioral science, and technology, are population mental health outcomes so dire? And what each of us can do to put “health” back into mental health?
America’s approach to mental illness isn’t working. Medical and psychological treatments have improved, yet population outcomes have gotten worse. Dr. Insel – neuroscientist, psychiatrist and former director of the National Institute of Mental Health – offers a different path to mental health, expanding our approach from a narrow medical model to a recovery model that includes the 3 P's: people, place, and purpose. By focusing on social support, a secure environment, and a mission, we can create a path from mental illness to thriving and well-being.
