How can physical exercise strengthen your brain?

Working out your body doesn't just build muscles – your brain feels the benefits too.

SCIENCE SAYS:

Exercise that raises your heart rate stimulates brain activity making you more alert, improving concentration, and improving both problem solving and emotional balance.

WAYS TO BEGIN:

  • Make a daily habit of visiting the local rec center, or going for a walk or run.
  • Consider alternate ways to get to class (e.g., if you always drive, consider biking or walking when the weather cooperates).
  • Play your favorite music and dance in your room.
  • Join a fitness class with a friend, and then hold each other accountable.
  • Get your competitive juices flowing by joining an intramural sports team.
