Overview

In a world increasingly driven by innovation, adaptability and resilience, brain health is emerging as the most vital — and perhaps most overlooked — asset of our time.

“Brain health is the most valuable asset we have, yet it remains underprioritized in national policy.” Sandra Bond Chapman, PhD Founder and Chief Director of the Center for BrainHealth
Center for BrainHealth's initiatives show why public attention to brain health should be elevated as a national priority, overlapping with and complementing rising attention to mental health. Distinct from mental health (which tends to focus on illness), brain health emphasizes proactive cognitive strength, emotional regulation and mental agility. These traits are now among the World Economic Forum’s top skills for 2025, underscoring their economic relevance. Yet depression, substance abuse, long COVID educational stressors and other threats to brain health continue to mount, eroding our collective brain capacity. To address this, experts like Dr. Chapman propose a White House Brain Capital Council to guide efforts in measuring and improving brain health as a form of human capital. This movement to broaden brain health awareness and support in healthcare and national policy includes leaders such as Harris Eyre, PhD, of the Baker Institute at Rice University, who adds, “We need a human-centered narrative of progress—one that puts brain health at the heart of economic and societal advancement.” Public figures from outside of the scientific community are also driving this cause, like Adm. William H. McRaven (ret.), national spokesperson for The BrainHealth Project, who frames brain health as a matter of national security: “Strengthening brain health is not just a medical issue—it’s a national security and productivity imperative.” Read the full article on Dallas Innovates
