How can diet strengthen your brain health?

No food is a magical elixir of brain health but if it's good for your heart, it's also good for your brain.

SCIENCE SAYS:

A well-rounded diet protects your whole body and reduces risk factors associated with cognitive decline. Whole foods rich in nutrients, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants help strengthen blood vessels and functions throughout the body, including both your heart and your brain.

WAYS TO BEGIN:

  • Cut back on sugar and saturated fats, and avoid alcohol.
  • Take pictures or notes to track what you eat. Evaluate your choices to improve your daily diet.
  • Look for nutritional gaps. Seek out a variety of whole foods, like leafy greens, berries, nuts and healthy fats.
  • Consult a nutritional specialist to make sure your dietary intake is meeting your daily needs.
