How can goal-oriented thinking shape your brain?

Having clearly defined goals can strengthen your sense of purpose. Starting with small goals can help your ambitions grow by encouraging the planning and prioritization needed to tackle larger goals.

SCIENCE SAYS:

Setting goals engages multiple parts of the brain. The goal-setting practice can rewire how different parts of the brain communicate with one another, and nudge you become more intentional and even modify your habits to help reach your goals. Tackling larger projects piece-by-piece, day-by-day reduces stress and boosts productivity.

WAYS TO BEGIN:

  • Focus on an important, high-level goal you can achieve within a few months.
  • Reflect upon what you need to do, and list questions to ask and steps to take.
  • Adopt routines (use the right time and place) to help maintain focus and stamina.
  • Set aside regular time to work on your plan, include actionable steps and strategic planning and, seek advice from others.
