Brainspan: How the BrainHealth Project Can Inform Dementia Prevention

Our lifespans have been burgeoned but our brainspans have not kept pace. Dementia is one of the main culprits undermining what should be our most rewarding years. Most current dementia-prevention trials are labor-intensive and hence expensive and difficult to scale to the hundreds of millions who need it. The BrainHealth Project is measuring and targeting improvements in the brain health of 100,000 people over ten years using a telehealth, web-based interface and real-time remote coaching. Results from this study show sustained improvements in brain health across the adult life cycle, even in those at risk of decline. Dr. Robertson outlines potential mechanisms through which these changes could potentially reduce and even prevent dementia.
