NEW – Neuroscience and the Built Environment: Advancing Brain Health and Resiliency

Speakers
Debbie Beck, EdD – Healthcare Operations and Strategic Planning Executive; Principal, Perkins&Will

About the Talk

An expert at the intersection of brain health and the built environment, Dr. Debbie Beck serves as a bridge between health practitioners and our design teams. Her vast and varied experience as a clinician, healthcare executive, teacher, and leader on the front lines of public and community health crises helps us translate clients’ visions into efficient, empathetic healthcare spaces — especially within behavioral health.
Debbie grew up in western North Carolina, the last of five children and the daughter of a Marine. The family never stayed in one place for long, and Debbie learned to keep her cool amid chaos. This skill has proven invaluable throughout her career, from transporting high-risk infants as a neonatal/pediatric clinical specialist, to providing direct patient care in adult ICUs and rehabilitation centers, to managing major institutions’ responses to public health crises. Motivated by the challenges of complex problem-solving, Debbie uses her insights into clinical operations, patient-centered care, and facility planning to advance design as an instrument of well-being.
