Overview

The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a loss of confidence in individuals, which will have long-lasting effects on social, economic, and political systems. Economic crises, like the current pandemic, can undermine self-belief and negatively impact individuals' ability to succeed. This loss of confidence affects national development, and a lack of confidence is linked to higher unemployment rates. Confident individuals are more likely to be entrepreneurial and productive. The pandemic has affected confidence levels in multiple ways, including isolation, job losses, and inconsistent policy approaches. Brain Capital is a new model for economic and policy thinking that puts a premium on brain skills and health, which are critical for resilience. Brain skills include self-control, emotional intelligence, creativity, compassion, altruism, systems thinking, collective intelligence, and cognitive flexibility. Brain Capital needs to be integral to a new narrative of growth and progress, which puts people at the center of our economic system. We need fundamental reform to bolster our long-term confidence and resilience as individuals and as a society to face future challenges.Read full article.
